We were at the Zoo in the bird section but this bird was not actually a part of the collection it was wild. I watched this Kookabura stalking something in the undergrowth for ages. The Kookaburra suddenly dropped from the branch capturing the prey and threw the little lizard on its head a couple of times to knock it out before swallowing it [which I bet did so the bird wouldn't feel the little bugger riggling around in his tummy]. Snack done I figure the bird figured I had gotten a bit too close flapping and snapping at me as it flew away. Very Cool.

I went out for lunch the other day with the family to get some fish n chips... at least the beer and Nikon D700 + 24/1.4 were scrumptious because the fish was freekin awful. Apparently I should have ordered the Premium flake!

DAD [yelling in Greek] - The meat is tough it's over cooked, who the hell bought goat. These animals run around a lot like the kangaroo, they've got no fat. I paid for this and it's my roast, I know when it's ready I've been doing this all my life... You think I don't know!?!
ME [yelling in English] - Whatever, I don't give a shit! Sort it out will you. Every fucking year you under cook the spit by about an hour. The meat needs to be falling off the bone, not hacked off by blunt knife... [followed by storm out].
DAD [cursing under his breath in Greek] - I've done this heaps of times like I don't know, stupid kids...

Later that evening...
MUM [in Greek] - I don't care what your dad says it needed another hour to an hour-and-a-half to cook through to the bone.

There were a fun few summers with that board, I saw it and immediately purchased it and had tested minutes later, Stooge got to it first. The Stooge and I lived a few long summers; they'd start around September and finished around May.

It was good being in Freo, normal and nice in a regular kind of way. So the story goes... That's Butches kit, and Butch plays in the Metallic metal ensemble Human Extinction Project - H. X. P for short bitches! Anyway see that half full jug of beer on the floor in front of the kit? Well, 15 seconds from starting their set, Rad [the front-man] and Butch were moving into their respective positions when Rad bent down to get a swig of beer, accidentally kicking over both the glass and jug landing on Butch's foot which had just rested on the kick peddle. Obviously both Rad and Butch were pissed, nevertheless they played a tight set, G Fresh was also ace belting out some vocals... T. F. R. C!

The only decent thing to come out of the past few weeks has been getting my lure back. I'd spent spent so much time in-front of the computer to the point where my brains were partially fried! Having said that it is also the best time of the year to spend fishing so excuse the odd fishing story that is likely to land here-in these pages.

Holidays Day Thirteen: That Snag

At an attempt to milk every last minute of freedom from my final few days of peace and holidays I headed down the river (again) with my brand-spanking new minnow style lure and rod to fish this new snag. It's needless to say I caught nothing except one of those many branches and tried everything except stripping down to undies and swimming out to retrieve it. Had it been summer I definitely would've gone for a swim but the water was cold and my boys shriveled when all I'd managed was knee deep and only a third of the way to where the lure still dangles. Oh well, there's plenty more lures on the shelf where that one came from and still plenty of optimism left in me to keep on going.

Holidays Day Two: Faceplant.

Stos had decided to take some time away from the office, having felt his head had been sufficiently done in by the whole sit on the ass making sales shite. On the second day of holidays Pok, after having watched a few too many skate vids decided to head down to the skate-park and carve it up while the girls were at playgroup.

It was meant to be the only sunny day of the break so I got down there early enough to have the place to myself and work any line that took my fancy. All was going rad wind in hair, tunes pumping in my ears the Spring sun warming me up and then I got cocky. I pushed off and decided to hit the bowl with heaps more speed and attempt a long front-side smith in and around the bend of the deep bowl when I think I must have had to much pressure on my front leg got unstuck and slammed into the opposite transition - nose first!

After checking that I'd not lost any teeth I decided to head back to the beginning of the run and try again not realizing that it was blood not sweat dripping down my face at which point I decided to pack it in for the day and headed home all the while thinking this was going to make a good shot and possibly an interesting posting.

My initial intention for the day was to jump on my pushy with a rod and new lures and waste some of the morning down the river catching nothing; maybe I should stick to old man things like that and hang the skateboard up for life... Nah I don't see that happening.

Wow an oil guy doing the clean thing and setting off on a trek around Oz on a bike built to run on used chip shop oil; how clever I hope the thing runs cos that's a fucking long way to push a bike. I shot the portraits and smelled the fumes which smelled better than fossil fuel fumes but no-where near as good as the smell of the fumes from the fish and chips my old man used to cook down on the Promenade; the south westerly was really good for business except for the day before bin collection day when all the fish carcasses had time to defrost and ferment in the long hot summer days... some things are excusable.

You were a very special person to many of us and I'm glad I got a chance to have spent some classic times with you. In particular 2002 Christmas Day in Filota at 83 you went to all the trouble of butchering that Koto-pouli bird and served it with some of Papous home grown spuds he'd harvested earlier that year.

That was also the third day I ever had my earing and I remember too the Litre bottle of Tsipouro I nursed from morning until dusk and beyond.

That was way cool hanging out like that.

Propped up against the bar at Rocket Bar one Friday night, I noticed this guy rocking out. He'd creep around from behind me from his position at the bar and bust into this four step dance then spin on his heal and head back to his drink. That was the first time I'd seen the Kill Devil Hills, I have to say the drummer has one of the rawer and most awesome voices around town - he don't hold back and really belts his words out. Very cool indeed!
